More fun photos

We now have all of the animals moved over to the new house. Brooke and Courtney gave all of their chickens to the new family that moved to Sacha Runa from deeper in the jungle. The lady was very thankful to have such nice (and fat) laying hens. We encouraged her to keep them for their eggs and to look for a rooster so she can have baby chicks to raise and eat. The girls enjoyed going out there and meeting the family as well as seeing a type of bird they had never seen before. One of the daughters in the family is having a difficult time adjusting to life out of the deep jungle. She was sad that she had to leave most of her pets behind. Thankfully, she was able to bring out this one, very special bird. It was like a miniature ostrich that followed her around like a puppy.

This is our first week back to homeschooling since moving. We had a fun day.

Love,
Celeste

Valerie Grace

Valerie Grace cut her head right above her eyebrow yesterday. She was playing on our bed and apparently bumped her head on the metal piece that locks our window. It was a pretty bad gash and when I first saw her, there was blood from her eyebrow all the way to her chin on that side and it was dripping from her chin. After screaming for Craig (he always knows what to do :), I took her in the bathroom and started putting pressure on it with a wash cloth. I really didn't want to have to take her into the hospital for stitches if we could avoid it as I think that would have been tramatic for her. After about 30 minutes of Valerie sitting in my lap and her being covering in gifts from the other girls and given a bag of chips that Craig ran across the street to buy for her, the bleeding had slowed enough to put a bandaid on it. Valerie Grace really does not like bandaids. All during chemo, she would freak out if the nurses demanded they use a bandaid when they took out the needle, yet putting in the needle wasn't as big of a deal to her.

We changed the bandaid last night and she did really well....I think she is being desensitized to her bandaidphobia....well, somewhat.

Quote for the week -Valerie Grace: "Daddy, Does Jesus have a princess?"

Craig: "Well, you are His princess"

Valerie Grace: " Princesses don't wear bandaids"

We would appreciate your prayers that her head continues to heal well and doesn't get infected.

Love,
Celeste

Another day at Ecoparque

We went to Ecoparque again today with some other missionary wives. Patti Sue also came and brought around 12 of the children. It was lots of fun. Brooke, Angel (from Casa de Fe), and some of the other missionary children rode the zipline.

We are all enjoying these nice days with little rain and some blue sky.

While we were gone, Craig moved some of the animals to the new house and fixed the roof of the house today.

Jennifer

We had Jennifer from Casa de Fe over earlier this month. She is the one child from Casa de Fe that our girls have grown closest to. She gets along with all of our girls and our girls greatly enjoy her (as do Craig and I). She has an older sister and two older brothers that live with her dad in Tena.

3rd home in Ecuador

We are about 80% moved into our new rental home. We just have the animals, kitchen table, and a desk left. We are going to wait until we have some help to move the last things as they are too heavy for Craig and I. Craig and I moved most items ourselves (even the refrigerator) except for - The Wolframs showing up just in time to lend a hand with the dryer, Maria's dad who walked by when we were unloading the girls' beds and helped Craig do that, and the sweet Ecuadorian neighbor at our old house (who's husband works for MAF) - she and her daughter helped Craig as they saw him carrying our mattress on his back. The house is very nice and the rent is less expensive than our last house. I also expect the power bill to be less as we have plenty of water pressure without the use of the electric water pump.

Craig has been making some repairs (potties, sink drains, replacing and grounding outlets, installing our water system, etc). Next will be the roof. We have leaves and lots of rain that fall through the roof into our bathroom. Not much rain though lately. It has been unusually dry and lots of sun and dust! It is hard to imagine Shell dusty if you have visited during other times of the year.

Brooke made a new friend. We were told by someone local that this little girl is from a family that steals things...we thought, all the more reason to invite this little girl into our lives and share Christ's love with her. We have too much stuff anyway :)- we came to build relationships. Her name is Shayla and she is an absolute doll.

Craig and I are realizing that "resting" is often more difficult than "doing". We have spent the first year of our time in Ecuador working - from the first week or so that we were here. Now, we feel the Lord telling us to rest - enjoy who He is - enjoy and love those around us. There is still stuff we are "doing", but it is different now.

Last Sunday morning, Maria took Brooke and Courtney to the zoo on the military base. We received a phone call from Brooke telling us Maria was very hurt, but that Maria wouldn't admit she was hurt. Hmmm. Well, Maria was bit by a very mean cappuchin monkey on her calf. It held on so tight, that she ended up with a bruise and a 4" gash from it's teeth. Maria said it hurt, but not bad enough to leave. The rest of the time there, a guide walked with them who had a big stick. The girls then played with Brian and David in the Pastaza river and collected snails (which have already laid eggs in our outdoor cement laundry tub).

The big girls also swam in the river in Shell twice and quickly learned that swimming in a river is very different than swimming in a pool. But they loved it. Brooke jumped off the cliff into the river.

Last week I took Brooke and Courtney to EcoParque. Two other missionaries wives have been organizing a fun day each week while the children are not in school. The girls had a blast swimming and riding the zipline into the pool. I enjoyed getting to better know two of the women here (both wives of MAF pilots). Valerie and I were able to get to know the Bartons a bit better this week. They just moved here on July 4th, and just had their 4th baby boy just a little over a month after arriving in Shell. They are both doctors (she is a pediatrician, and he is an anestesiologist). They were both so sweet and their boys played very well with Valerie.

Craig and Brooke went to church in Sacha Runa yesterday and Satruday, the congregation came by our house for a little over an hour.

Both sets of our parents will be visiting in September :)

Love,

Celeste

Pictures from our day trip to Banos

We took a day trip to Banos. It was about an hour west of Shell. It was very different - many shops and tourists. We ate lunch, then went to the zoo. While in Florida, Maria commented on how each animal tasted when she visited the zoo. While in Banos, Craig commented on which animals we have kept as pets.
The girls had a good time and it was our first traveling west on our own. The price was right too - $1 for adults and 50 cents for children over 5. Gas is still under $1.50 a gallon here, so it made for a cheap, yet fun day.
